“Connecting the community with the blind and the blind with the community.”
About Visionaries
Our Mission
Visionaries The Blind in Action is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering blind and visually impaired individuals across South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley. Founded on the belief that blindness does not limit what a person can achieve, we exist to connect, educate, and inspire our community.
We help blind individuals understand that they can do everything everyone else can — they may simply need to learn how to do it differently. Our programs are built on dignity, independence, and the power of community.
Over more than 10 years of service, we have grown from a small gathering of neighbors to a thriving network of 300+ annual event participants and 50+ partner organizations across the region.
Volunteers are the heart of Visionaries. Whether you are a UTRGV rehabilitation studies student completing degree requirements, a community member who wants to make a difference, or someone who simply believes in inclusion — we welcome you. No special training is required. Our volunteers assist at events, help participants navigate activities, and serve as bridges between the sighted and blind communities.
Businesses and sponsors play a vital role in helping Visionaries serve the community. Your support funds programs, events, and resources that remain free and accessible for everyone we serve. We offer sponsorship tiers with benefits including logo placement at events, website recognition, and social media acknowledgment. Contact us to learn how your organization can make a lasting impact across South Texas.
Blind and visually impaired individuals and their families are always welcome at Visionaries. Whether you are newly adjusting to vision loss or have lived with blindness for years, our community is here for you. Families are encouraged to participate alongside their loved ones. Together we build independence, confidence, and lasting connections across the Rio Grande Valley.
